Firm Handshakes

Before the pandemic broke out, a handshake was the universal sign-on politeness. A proper and firm handshake can pass across a message of your level of confidence. Some other gestures that can substitute handshakes are a warm smile, an elbow bump, or a fist bump, depending on the accepted way of greeting in any formal setting you may find yourself in. Hopefully, post-pandemic handshakes can become an awesome way to make first impressions again.

It might seem ridiculous, but there are things to watch out for to make sure that you give the best handshakes possible. First, it all borders on moderation, a handshake that is too weak will give a bad impression, but if it is too strong, you might hurt the person you are shaking. Second, a good handshake should be warm, sincere, and friendly; if you are offered a handshake while in a sitting position, you should stand to receive it. It portrays regard for that person. Also, make sure that you do not elongate the handshake for more than necessary if not, the other person may begin to feel uncomfortable, which ruins the whole point of the handshake in the first place. You should also make eye contact with the person but try not to hold it for too long because that could successfully make the person uncomfortable too. Lastly, always remember to smile.
